Mount Teide is the highest point on Tenerife and the highest mountain in all the Canary Islands. As you can see, it still had some snow on its summit in April, when the temperature down at the beach was in the warm mid 20s!
The visitor centre is a busy spot - popular with coach tours and jeep safaris, as well as individual travellers. There is a cafe and toilets and a very helpful man in a shed, who can speak every language know to man and point you off to enjoy various walks in the area. Of course, the shortest and nearest are the most popular, so it is more like being in a long queue than going for a walk!
It is easy to escape the crowds though, just leave the visitor centre and explore the paths in this magnificent volcanic crater. It is well worth it.
